Last bank holiday in the UK (End of August), back from our holiday in France but still willing to be as much outdoor as possible, I planned a fun day out in a forrest just 1h away from London. My fellow mum and friend Claire had mentioned to me this forest called Alice Holt and we had not had a chance to visit it earlier. Our bank holiday was calling for us to be out and explore. Let me tell you all about Alice Holt!
Situated less that 1h from us in SW London, this place is totally within easy reach if you want to be out for a day (or even half a day). The parking is not cheap (£8) but the the place is in immaculate condition, bins everywhere, clean toilets, great play areas, cafe, information centre….I will always accept to pay a little bit if the place is well looked after and that exactly how Alice’s holt was.
As soon as we arrived the kids spotted the great outdoor play area made of wooden equipments and rushed to it in delight (good for kids up to 8yo I would think).
We then picked up a map at the information centre to head out for a nice walk. There are several possible trails from 0.6miles (1km) to the 3miles (5km) . We picked up the 1.5mile one (2km) planning a little pic-nic half way through to cheer everybody up.
We met giant Gruffly sculptures on the way, much to the kids’ delight!
The blackberries were looking pretty good but they must be absolutely perfect right now.
There was the possibility of den building for the kiddos on the way which was a nice mini break for them.
…while yours truly carried as usual her camera bag, snapping a few shots along the way. [Top:I bought my first of the shoulder top this summer and have loved it. So many possible styles at H&M, check it all out there. Shoes: white converse, available here and chino shorts from Gap, available here]
After our nice walk and pic-nic, we talked about the possibility to rent bikes and the kids were so excited about the prospect. It’s not exactly cheap to hire bikes down there so would recommend anyone to bring their own if they could but it was such fun to go all 5 of us for a ride!
After our 5km cycle tour, everyone needed an ice cream and some chilled out time so we headed to the Cafe.
The sun returned in all its glory bringing a beautiful glow to the forest.
And we grasped the last beautiful rays of sunshine in the play area. Seeing 3 little ones together on the swing was just too much for me…I had heart melting moment.
One of the things I enjoy most in life is being outdoor with my little family, discovering a beautiful or interesting place and having fun together and that’s exactly what we had at Alice Holt forest! We will be back!
